The former palace of Bessarabian nobles Riscanu-Derojinski, located in the historic center of the capital will be restored

Built in the 19th century by the famous architect Bernardazzi , the palace for all of its existence, has undergone many changes. During the 1950’s for example, a  new wing and amphitheatre was attached to the building where the Supreme Soviet of the MSSR used to sit. Some years later the amphitheatre was converted into a cinema.

In the early 2000’s, this dilapidated old building was passed to the Ministry of Culture and was then added to the list of national monuments.
Subsequently, the National Agency for the restoration and preservation of historical monuments together with the Ministry of Culture passed the remains of the palace into private hands, with the precondition to refurbish it, while retaining the facade of the building and its maximum authenticity.

The new owner of the monument is the company “Universal Project” SRL, which has already started reconstruction works. The renovated palace will house offices of the institution.
