Civil servants in Moldova will be taught the state language free

Taking advantage of the national program, 500 civil servants have the possibility to learn the state language for free. It is projected that by the end of 2015 60% of public sector employees will know the Moldovan language.

Under this program, the government allocated 90 million lei in 2010.

Director of the National Association of European instructors, Lucia Cucu, said: "This is a program for central and local government officials, physicians, police officers, lawyers and teachers. National minorities will be studying the language for a few months. First, their level of knowledge of the language will be checked and then they will be all divided into groups – according to the level. Last year, when we started the program, there were over 2,000 willing to study, but we could only train 500. Others may enrol in September, when it is announced a new intake. "
