Museum-Estate Ralli - Arbore

REF NR: 7285
  • 1107

Zamfir Ralli was one of the most active members of Bessarabia at the beginning of 19th century. His homestead is more famous by its distinguished quests rather than by its master. One of these quests was Alexander Pushkin, who lived in Bessarabia in exile.

The Rallys Family was an example of progressiveness.

Head of the family Zamfir Ralli-Arbore arrived in Moldova from Wallachia and voluntarily accepted Russian citizenship. His wife, Smaranda, belonged to one of the oldest families of the great companions of the sovereign of Moldova Stefan cel Mare.

That time the fashionable Rally salon was considered one of the finest in Moldova, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that the exiled poet became its frequenter. Pushkin became friends with one of the five Rally sons, Ivan, in whose apartment in Chisinau he spent most of his free time.

The idea to memorialize the name of Alexander Sergeyevich belongs to Ivan. In honour of the poet's there was built a new church in the village and was rebuilt Rally old family homestead. However, the real museum in the estate opened only in 1946. Most of the exhibits for the museum were brought from St. Petersburg and Chisinau.

Thanks to the patronage of the President of the Republic of Moldova V. N. Voronin and the care of local residents, the estate and all of its exhibits are in excellent condition. The Farmstead Museum is a branch of the Museum of Chisinau "Pushkin House".

Not far from the house there is a meadow and spring Zemfira, named after the daughter of Gypsy Baron, the girl’s beauty struck young Alexander Sergeyevich and inspired him to write the poem "Gypsies".
