This year in May the Republic of Moldova will issue the third edition of the Red Book. In will include 216 species of animals and 218 species of plants. The first edition was published in 1978.

It included 60 endangered species of flora and fauna. The second book was published in 2001. In it included 116 species of animals and 126 species of plants. The new version of the book has 75 species of plants more that were not previously considered as rare, but now they are on the verge of extinction.

Moreover, the new edition will include new sections, which will include rare species of fungi and algae. The issue circulation is worth 1.2 million lei.
