The opening ceremony was attended by the chairman of parliament Igor Corman, vice chairman of the German Bundestag Ulla Schmidt, the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca as well as deputies, members of the government and representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova.
"Today we pay tribute to the special city governor in the history of our capital. Karl Schmidt along with Alexander Bernardazzi radically changed the face and image of the city. Thanks to Karl Schmidt Chisinau became one of the most beautiful capital of a province of the time. I hope the bust of Karl Schmidt will become the hallmark for those who visit the Republic of Moldova, and for our citizens who wish to learn more about the history of the capital, "- said Igor Corman.
The initiative to open the bust belongs to German Ambassador Matthias Meyer and Polish Ambassador Artur Michalski in Moldova.
