Today, there are about twenty species of shakuhachi. The standard length of the flute - 1.8 shaku (that is 54.5 cm). It has defined itself, the Japanese name of the instrument, as "shaku" - a unit of length, and "hati" - "eight." The tool has a special, unique sound, which can greatly vary according to the desire to play the melody. This property is used by Zen masters to perform meditative music (practice Suizen). In addition, the flute had spread among the peasants, because it was easy to manufacture tools and approaches for the performance of folk melodies.

Bansuri (bansri) - Indian wind musical instrument, type of transverse flute. Particularly prevalent in North India. Bansuri made of separate hollow stem of bamboo with six or seven holes.

There are two types of tools: transverse and longitudinal. Longitudinal commonly used in folk music in the game and the lips lare ike in a whistle. Transverse same species most used in Indian classical music.
