Areas of particular importance to the national economy, history or culture of the country, according to the law will be able to obtain the status of an ethno-cultural region. The corresponding initiative was approved by the Commission for Social Protection, Health and Family on Wednesday, February 11.

Author of the project, the deputy Oleg Reidman, cited the example of Taraclia district, which is recognized as a Bulgarian center of Republic of Moldova.

In his opinion, the fact that at present only village and towns may be granted the status of historical and cultural center, is discrimination in respect of urban districts.
