Day of Customs Service Worker of the Moldova Republic

On the 4th September the customs workers in Moldova celebrate their professional holiday - Day of Customs. The holiday was established in honour of organisation of the Customs Service that was announced after the Moldova independence in 1991.

Already in October 1994, the Moldovan Customs Service became a full member of the World Customs Organisation, which is evidence of its compliance with the international standards and requirements.

The aim of the customs service is to provide the economic security in accordance with international standards, simplification of the trade facilitation, in collaboration with civil society and the business community, the development of international trade and the creation of a climate favourable to investment.

Since its foundation and until today, there is a balanced and constant development of the customs authorities.

Historical dates are:

    04.09.1991 - Decree of the President of the subordination of the customs authorities on the territory of the Moldova Republic (at the time the customs system consisted of Ungheni, Leuseni and internal customs of Chisinau).

    In 1992, on the border with Romania were opened 4 new customs: Sculeni, Kosteshti, Cahul and Giurgiuleşti. In the same year, 22 customs points were set up on the state border with the Ukraine.

    09/03/1993 - approved the first Customs Code.

    1994 – The Republic of Moldova became the full member of the World Customs Organization.

    15.08.1995 - Decree of the President approved the 4th September as the Day of Customs, which is celebrated annually.

    20.07.2000 - Adopted the new Customs Code and the Law on Service in Customs Authorities.

    06/01/2001 - Republic of Moldova became the member of the World Trade Organization.
