The mission of the social worker is to provide assistance and support the certain vulnerable and disadvantaged groups of the population: pensioners, elderly people living alone, people with disabilities, refugees, children from problem families, orphans, lonely children, and those under guardianship or adoption, persons experiencing difficulties in employment due to industrial injury or congenital physical disabilities, etc.

Social worker should do his best in order to improve the material conditions of life entrusted citizens and provide their social and legal protection.

On December 24th, in 1999, Moldova adopted the Law "On social protection of invalids” (№ 821-XII), which reads as follows: "Persons with Disabilities in the Republic of Moldova have the full social, economic and personal rights and freedoms assigned in the Declaration on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, by the UN General Assembly, the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, this Law and other legislative acts. Discrimination against the disabled is prohibited and punishable by law. "

The modern system of social protection and social support for families and children in our republic is characterized by two main mechanisms: remittances and social services.

On July 14th , 1999 as part of welfare reform by the Parliament was adopted the Law "On the state social benefits for certain categories of citizens", providing the government social benefits for persons that do not have right to receive the state social insurance pensions.

Social Worker – is a complex and difficult profession that requires effort, skill, professionalism, warmth and humanity, also it is need great love towards people and optimism.
