Transfiguration of Our Lord

The holiday of the Transfiguration of the Lord is celebrated on the 6th of August, and it is accompanied by folk traditions.

In the national calendar this holiday is called Transfiguration, and it means transformation and refers to the biblical episode when the face of Jesus Christ "shone like the sun, and his garments became white as the light." This Orthodox holiday is included into the calendar not by a coincidence. At this time, weather and nature are changed.

Transfiguration of the Jesus Christ

Transfiguration – this is a border of summer and early autumn. There are some signs of it. From that day the water gets colder, field and tree leaves begin to turn yellow. On the day of transfiguration is given for the “memory of those passed away" grapes and fruits which are first consecrated in the church. Church permits eating grapes, pears, apples.

On the Transfiguration Day are picked medicinal herbs as chamomile and sea parsley. There is a belief according to which is needed to make peace with all quarrelled. On this day it is forbidden to scold children, and the whole year you will do the same job.
