In Moldova, people who smoke in public places will be fined 1,000 lei

Economy, budget and finance parliamentary commission have discussed an anti-tobacco bill. According to the proposed draft legislation cigarettes can be advertised only in certain places, or without any advertising at all.

Minister of Health of Moldova, Andrei Usatii, explained: "Cigarettes should not be drawn to the  attention of shoppers at the exit of the stores where they are being sold. We are going to dictate and allocate special places where tobacco products can be advertised, but not at the exit or in a prominent place."

However, manufacturers and importers of tobacco do not agree with the legislators.

If the bill is adopted, smokers in public places, workplaces, bus stops, public transport and parks will be fined a thousand lei if found breaking the law.
