World Premature Baby Day for the first time will be celebrated in Moldova on 17 November. Over the past 30 years the number of premature births has not decreased. Dr. Alla Curteanu, Coordinator of the project of Association of Perinatal Medicine RM, said that in our country 2/3 of preterm births happen in rural areas.
Actual costs for the care of premature infants range from 126 thousand to 167 thousand lei and more for 42-63 days of treatment. Dr. Alla Curteanu says that the allocated budget of 17-22 thousand lei is not enough. The difference between the actual costs and allocated budget funds is covered by unused money of other medical institutions.
